Amann Speaks at BuildingsNY
Bill Amann spoke at the BuildingsNY Conference on May 9th at the Javits Center about Environmentally Sustainable Building Concepts.
We spend 90% of our lives in buildings that are inefficient, expensive to maintain, and often contribute to illness and poor productivity. And, while most building owners are ready to embrace a “High Performance Building”, they often do not know what that means, how to go about it, and what they should be measuring.
This session provided attendees with an understanding of both the attributes and the economics of a green building. They learned about their impact on climate change and health; explore the LEED Rating System; assess the concept of Net Zero Energy; and discuss what you can do today to “turn the Titanic” and turn your buildings towards a positive environmental Impact.
Amann & DePalma Speak at NJ Planning Conference
William Amann, Drew DePalma, and Vatsal Bhatt spoke at the NJ Planning Conference at the Hyatt Regency in New Brunswick, NJ on January 26th. Their presentation will focus on LEED for Cities and WELL Community standards.
This session offered an overview of the latest and most cutting edge sustainability rating systems. LEED for Cities and Communities is a data-driven rating system that uses metrics to measure the sustainability of cities (and communities) and to monitor progress and track improvements. The performance score uses 14 metrics related to energy and carbon, water, waste, transportation, education, prosperity, equitability, health and safety. The Arc platform can also measure data on 250+ quantitative and qualitative parameters for more detailed evaluation. The WELL Building Standard is a performance-based system to measure the impact of the built environment on human health. The WELL Community Standard is now in pilot phase, and expands that reach into overall community issues and has close ties to land planning practice.

This session was led by LEED Fellows, architect Jason Kliwinski and engineer William Amann, supported with recycling industry expert, Michael Buono. The experience of this team spans 20 years of green building and over 100 LEED projects. Their work has evolved from early LEED projects seeking basic certification to some of the highest performing projects built today. Rating systems like the Living Building Challenge & LEED are pushing the industry on energy performance as building codes are getting significantly stricter as well.
Our intent is to help teams more cost effectively achieve high performance designs with a goal of reaching the elusive triple net zero performance metric.
