OFFICE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (OIT) HUB

The overall objective of this project was to convert the existing data center and supporting electrical spaces from an antiquated Halon system to a new clean agent system while maintaining an existing pre-action system as secondary protection. The project also included removing and relocating computer room air conditioning (CRAC) units to provide redundant systems. During the design, the existing Halon system & fire alarm system failed and the pre-action system was converted to a wet pipe system. The project expanded in scope to provide a new fire alarm system for the entire facility, convert the wet pipe system back to a pre-action system and add additional pre-action zones to cover the entire facility, not just the data center and electrical spaces. These modifications required new hydraulic calculations to be completed as well as extensive surveying to confirm piping locations and elevations to ensure the existing piping could be properly pitched so it could be drained. This project also included a detailed HVAC analysis to expand the hosting capacity of the data center. Multiple options were presented with detailed cost estimates and site implications to be used for future OIT projects.
